The Dental Team

Our team consists of dentists, dental nurses and reception staff who always aim to provide of high standard of care and service for patients.

Our practice is accessible for disabled patients. There is a ramp to the downstairs surgery which is in full time use. There is also a ramp for disabled access to the patient's toilet.

Services Available

We have agreed with the Cardiff and Vale Local Health Board to provide NHS Dental Treatment.

NHS dental treatment includes all treatment necessary to secure and maintain your oral health. We also provide a full range of private treatment options for patients who choose to have treatment that isn’t available under the NHS – for example white fillings in back teeth or cosmetic treatment such as tooth whitening.

The poster in our waiting room and on the reception desk has information about the cost of NHS treatment. Your dentist will advise you of the cost of any private treatment

Specialist services

We do not offer any specialist services but referrals may be made to secondary care if necessary.

Appointments

Making an appointment

If you ask us for an appointment, we will try to offer you one as soon as possible at a convenient time. You can make an appointment by phoning the practice on 02920 553463 or via our website which has a 'contact us' feature.

Reminders and recalls

At the end of your course of treatment, your dentist will discuss with you when you will need to see a dentist again. NHS dentists now follow guidelines issued by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE). This means you will attend as often as is needed to

and may no longer need a check-up every six months. We will either send a reminder in the post or via email or text message nearer the time.

Cancellations

If you are unable to keep your appointment please let us know as soon as possible so that we can give the appointment to someone else. Missed appointments waste NHS time.

We require 24 hours’ notice of cancellation. If you fail your appointment on a number of occasions or short notice cancel a number of times we may no longer be able to offer you further appointments at the practice.


Emergencies

The practice policy on emergencies follows the NICE and NHS guidelines. We will always work our hardest to offer you an emergency appointment within 24 hours.

Opening hours

The practice opening hours are as follows:

Monday: 9.00am - 5.00pm

Tuesday: 9.00am - 5.00pm

Wednesday: 9.00am - 5.00pm

Thursday: 9.00am - 5.00pm

Friday: 9.00am - 5.00pm

Please note the practice is closed daily for lunch 1-2pm.


Urgent treatment and out of hours care

If you have a dental emergency out of normal practice hours you can contact the Cardiff and Vale LHB out of hours service on 02920 444500. They are available week days after 630pm, weekends and bank holidays.

Your rights and responsibilities

You are entitled to

· a thorough examination of your mouth, teeth and gums

· a full explanation of your treatment options

· a written treatment plan (including costs) *

· information about NHS charges displayed in the waiting room

· advice on how to keep your teeth and gums healthy

· information about this practice and the services available

· a care and treatment summary if you decide to transfer to another dentist

· make a complaint if you are not happy with your treatment and care

You are responsible for

· giving at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or change an appointment. Repeatedly missed or cancelled appointments may mean we are no longer to offer you any further appointments.

· paying your bill promptly

· following your dentist’s advice

· bringing proof of entitlement when claiming help with the cost of NHS treatment. If no proof is shown your eligibility will be checked.

· treating our staff with courtesy and respect**

** Please note – we will refuse to treat patients who are violent, fail to pay their bills or refuse to cooperate

Your dental records

Your dental records will remain confidential and secure. However, from time to time we may be required to release them to the Cardiff and Vale LHB as part of an on-going clinical review process. We will try to contact you before releasing your dental rec organisation.
